UN’ARTE AMERICANA
HOOKED RUGS
In association with Y.B.Bolour, New York - Los Angeles
The exhibition, with the patronage of the USA Embassy, features 74 hooked rugs. The art of hooked rugs began in the late 1700 in New England. It was from the sailors that women learn to handle the hooked needle, a technique used by the fishermen to finish their nets.
Over the years, women perfected the technique to create rugs with flowers, objects of daily life, biblical sayings, well-wishes and domestic animals.
At the beginning of the 20th century geometric designs began to appear and then led to abstract figures.
